The Peninsula Woodturner news
Our aim is to foster friendship and develop skills through our common interest in woodturning
After a long period of absence from the Club this page is now to be dedicated to current news and events.
Although still under design considerations, input and suggestions are welcome from financial club members.
As of this week, lathe No 7 is once again back in service, its speed controller has been replaced, as have the head stock bearings.
Also lathe No 2 had an issue, that was determined as an 'in warranty failure'. The motor bearings had failed which allowed the motors' cooling fan to 'melt down' . The supplier (Machinery Warehouse) repaired the motor under the warranty in a very timely manner, with a 7 day turnaround.
There is currently a Club Challenge running, Steve Pratt presented an old favourite that I recalled as being presented by Bill Barber but apparently its history in the Club goes back further than that. I shall include details / design plans after copying so that they can be downloaded from a link off this page!
Last week instead of a demonstration I attempted maintenance on the Vicmarc 175 lathe, but despite the best of intentions the procedure didn't quite go as planned, with residual rust not allowing the mainshaft to exit the driven pulley. Eventually the lathe surrendered and the shaft was extracted, both bearings replaced and all parts cleaned and finally reassembled.
Until next update...........Happy Turning
